Not necessarily an audio tip, but in Second Life please set your avatar to
 +
not fall asleep when inactive. To do this turn on the Advanced menu:  Ctrl-Alt-D
 +
 +
Then, Advanced  > Character  > Character Tests  > Go Away / AFK when idle should be Un-checked.
 +

 +
Voice conversations for shows can be recorded in a number of ways. Common ones are:
 +

 +
* Second Life Voice
 +
* Skype Conference
 +
* VOIP Conference
 +

 +

 +
For good audio results, please use a USB headset with microphone. If possible, one with noise cancellation on the mic. Whenever possible, it's best to have avatars lip sync feature enabled.
 +

 +
===Using Second Life Voice===
 +

 +
In Second Life, be sure to have Voice Chat enabled.
 +
Go to Preferences > Voice Chat and check 'Enable voice chat'
 +

 +
Also check that your headset Device Settings are adjusted. Click on Device Settings. A new dialog window called Voice Chat Device Settings opens.  Make sure your Input Device (microphone) and Output Device (speakers) are set to your USB headset. Speak normally and you should see the green lights meter respond. Adjust the slider until there are strong green lights, but no red lights - usually peaking about mid-way across.  Apply settings and say Ok to your Preferences.
 +

 +
Navigate your avatar to the show location and test that you will be able to hear all participants in the show properly and adjust individual volumnes if needed.  You can adjust other speaker's volumns by opening the Active Speakers window.
 +

 +
Lock your Talk button on and speak normally.
 +

 +

 +
===Using Skype or other VOIP system===
 +

 +
For speakers that are controlling their own avatars.
 +

 +
* Run Skype and Second Life
 +
* The audio input to Skype is what will be recorded
 +
* The audio input to Second Life activates lip sync movement
 +

 +
Only listen to your Skype conversation.
 +

Make sure your Input Device (microphone) is set to your headset mic. Speak normally and you should see the green lights meter respond. Adjust the slider until there are strong green lights, but no red lights - usually peaking about mid-way across.  Apply settings and say Ok to your Preferences.
 +

 +
In Second Life, lock the Talk button on and click Master Mute
 +

 +
Speak normally on the Skype conference call.
 +

 +

 +
===For avateers controlling an avatar on a speaker's behalf===
 +

 +
In Second Life, be sure to have Voice Chat enabled.
 +
Go to Preferences > Voice Chat and check 'Enable voice chat'
 +

 +
Also check that input Device Settings are adjusted. Click on Device Settings. A new dialog window called Voice Chat Device Settings opens.  Make sure your Input Device (microphone) is set to your computer microphone.
 +

 +
Any noise picked up by the microphone will activate the avatar lip sync; ideally the conference call discussion, but any audio input will trigger lip sync movement.  Check a sample audio input level and you should see the green lights meter respond. Adjust the slider until there are strong green lights, but no red lights - usually peaking about mid-way across.  Apply settings and say Ok to your Preferences.
 +

 +
When avateering, use the Push-To-Talk button when your avatar should be speaking and 'make some noise'.
