Treet TV Video Formats
The world of video is a wild and wooly field of technology. Before you embark at understanding video formats, try to narrow your interest to the areas which concern you most. At Treet TV, there are four different video areas, each with their own sets of issues: live video, archive video, production video, and video submissions.
Before reading about any video issues here or anywhere, you should gain a basic understanding about the difference between codecs and containers (or wrappers). The distinction between codecs and containers is the chief cause of confusion about video formats, and the software industry has done nothing to help because even those who design and write software add to confusion by ignoring this distinction in an attempt to woo you into a sense of comfort.
Live Video
Live video are streams that we send out to the world, and to virtual worlds like Second LifeĀ®. We currently serve these streams in Quicktime, and the formats these are sent in.
