Treet TV Island Development
From TreetWiki
Every week people come to the live shows to be in the audience or participate; however, to them the rest of the islands are a mystery. We see this as an opportunity. Studio Wikitecture will work with Treet TV's producers, project stakeholders, and viewers to develop a "Master Plan" for Treet TV's 4 sims.
Recent Developments
- Meeting notes for our regular weekly meetings are now at Treet Island Meeting Notes.

Background
- Treet TV and their producers have spent the last two years creating a vibrant community. Each week new shows are filmed and broadcast to around 150,000 viewers a month via inworld screens and the Treet website (http://archives.treet.tv).
- Just like in the real world production studios of LA, where backlots for various shows are positioned alongside or opposite each other, we also have a diverse range of shows representing different genres and styles that occupy the Treet TV islands.
- The islands have expanded from the original island, Northpoint, and gone through various development phases responding to requirements rather than fitting into a larger plan.
Goals
- To create a community environment which empowers producers and participants in Treet TV shows
- To create a functional space to support a working community to make shows, share skills and continue to improve what we and our production partners are doing
- To create an attraction for visitors to understand and explore virtual television, and to learn how media affects our inworld experiences
- To ensure the process of development is organic, participatory and iterative
Participation
You can participate in many ways
- View designs that have been submitted
- Comment on designs that have been submitted
- Vote on designs that have been submitted
- Take a copy of any design, modify or refine it, then...
- Upload a design to the 'Wiki Tree' (Wikitecture) where others can view it
You can even create an entirely new design proposal for the Master Plan.
What is Wikitecture?
The idea behind Wikitecture is the same as the idea behind the Wiki only everything is handled inside Second Life. This will allow you to submit content in-world which can be edited by others who are in the member of the correct group. Each version of the object becomes a leaf on a tree that is created as content and can be viewed by all. Using this we will be able to collectively create content (ie. buildings, etc.) for this project collectively.

Using Wikitecture
The Wikitecture interface may seem a bit confusing at first, but after understanding the basics you'll be an expert in no time. Below are some step by step instructions on how to use it.
- To begin you will need to join the "Studio Wikitecture" group. It's open to anyone.
- You can either click "clear parcel" and start anew or you can cycle through the spherical archiving leaves and pick a design to modify. (when clearing or cycling through the designs, make sure no one else is working when you do this or else they will lose their work.)
- If starting anew, pull a prim out of the trunk of the Wiki Tree. Touching any of the prim buttons, will rez out that particular prim just north of the 'trunk'. (Make sure you use these prims (or a copy of them) because they contain a unique script that communicates with the 'wiki-tree'. Unfortunately normal prims will not work)
- If you're modifying another design, any of the prims you copy/modify will already have the necessary script in them.
- When your build is finished go back to the base of the Wiki Tree and click "Prepare to submit". (nothing happens visually, the tree is just recording where all them prims are)
- After which, Highlight your entire build, right click it and choose "Take".
- At the base of the Wiki Tree, right click "Drop Box" and choose "Edit". This will open a dialog box.
- Open your inventory and locate the design you just took into your inventory (ie. "TREE::1249532408::LEAF::1250037941").
- Drag and drop this Object into the 'Contents Tab' of the dialog box that was just opened.
- Click the 2 folder called "Submit Design".
- Voila, you have submitted a design!
For a more elaborate 'How-To', on the Wiki Tree as well a How-To on using the http://www.studiowikitecture.com site to submit comments and vote on the various designs, please go here. http://studiowikitecture.wikidot.com/how-to. Illustration: Click to enlarge

Other Notes:
You can use an existing build to add to the Tower, simply obtain the script by clicking the button that says "...if using existing prims put this script inside each one".
If you run into problems IM Texas Timtam or email texas@treet.tv for help on getting started.
Specific Requirements
- Provide visitors with a context of where they are on the island so that there is an understanding of what they are a part of.
- Preserve the things that are working and accommodate the likelihood for additional studios to be added over time

Business Goals
Treet TV is in the process of redeveloping it's online presence into two different websites that will target the entertainment market and the business market. The Treet Islands should have a Treet Business Center that promotes the business website and business shows.
There will be some features on the website, such as member sign-in, that we will want.
Suggestions so far
- Water sports activities, Sailing, kayaking, sculling. Have contests between different program staffs
- SL version of Universal Studios where you can the backlot and a history museum and little demo booths to interact with your favorite shows
- Viewing lounges
- Back-up studio facility (in case off site sims are down)
- Snail ride roller coaster (skip coaster feature lab as a walk through ride see below)
- RX lab allotted more room for testing of new obstacles and enough room for a path through them.
- Interactive gallery about how you make television in virtual worlds
- Educational "accidental learning" experience for visitors
- Treet Street Tour Trolley
- A connecting kit that contains sign post materials, textures for walkways and elements that tie the islands together
- A presence on the island from every show produced both on the island and off-island.
- A swanky place to do music events, parties, openings and launches.
- A space for Lauren's Place
- Open air auditorium
- Somewhere to offer giveaways or for sale items for each show and personality (this could potentially be the former SLCN HQ - circular building with triangle attached)
- The atmosphere for the whole SoCal backlot experience - writer bungalows, bicycles, meandering walkways (not so much thoroughfares) and artwork along the way
- Ground level needs a familiarity while the extensions in the air can be varied
- Walls and roofs of studios should be used for promotion
- Viewing booths could be themed - sports, business, lifestyle
- Audio guide plays at each studio and key location providing the visitor with information should they wish to play and listen
- more TV givers
- Have a design contest for the iconic structure at the center of the islands
- Trolley tour device
- There should be rules on automatic note givers
- TVs located at studios playing specific promos
