Submitting Runsheets

From TreetWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

The runsheet is the definitive guide to what will happen during a live show.

It is relatively simple to fill out and needs to be emailed to the studio (runsheets@treet.tv) the day prior to your show.

The runsheet template (runsheet_template.doc) can be used as the base for a show runsheet. The runsheet example document (runsheet_example.doc) gives you an idea of how the runsheet should appear when complete.

Both are included here. File:Run_sheet.zip

You need to modify this template for your own show and email it to the studio at least one day prior to filming.

If there are changes made to a show the runsheet should be up-dated and a new version should be sent to runsheets@treet.tv.

The runsheet contains the following components:

Segment

The segment numbering is used to indicated a change of some kind during the show that provides direction to the vision mixer and camera operators about what you want to happen at a various points during the show.

Having the segments numbered allows the team to easily collaborate on the same document by referring to the Segment number to quickly see which part of the show is under discussion.

Scene Description

This is a short, clear descriptions of what should be filmed in this segment. It might include the visual scene, the questions from the interviewer or the transitions between hosts.

Lower Thirds

This is the content that appears as an overlay in the lower third of the screen. It is very important you get the spelling of names correct. You have 2 lines to use. The first line is in smaller font and allows you to put more content. In general you should keep this line to less than 35 characters. It varies slightly according to what fonts are used, however, 35 characters (including spaces) is on average a safe zone. The second line is larger font and is usually used for names of people (maximum 20 characters).

Inserts

Any photos, images or pre-recorded video can be added as an insert that plays during the show. They will be queued up during show prep by the video mixer so any assets must be delivered the day before the shoot.

Full screen graphics need to be 1280 x 720 px as a JPG, TIFF, or PNG minding the "graphic safe" areas. i.e. keep an area around the outside border of your graphic of about 70 or 80 px free of any critical information like text or logos. See Video_frame_layout for more info.

Movies need to be in Quicktime movie format (see Video Submissions for more details about formats). If you are inserting video and want that video to play in front of your live studio audience then you need to read more about inserting video during live shows.

Both lower thirds and inserts need to be prepped, and usually we do these in the one-hour of pre-production time based upon the contents of the runsheet. However, it is good to understand the layout of a typical Treet 720p video frame to be sure runsheet instructions make sense. Alternatively, some shows choose to prepare lower-thirds directly and submit completed graphics. This makes it easier to have finer control over the design of a show.

The run sheet is an essential part of the success of your show. Feel free to tailor make it to suit your show format. Coloring and bolding can also be added for extra clarity.
